This book really nails a lot of the problem areas seen in other litRPG books. It sets good real world stakes for a believable protagonist, sets a good reason for the characters unique class, and good in game set up for side character motivations.The book quickly takes you into the game and sets up the motivation. The pacing in this book is really well done and makes it so you don't want to put it down. In most litRPGs its hard to find a way to convincingly level the main protagonist and the unique class really creates an interesting way to do this.The one issue I had with this book is thats its a bit predictable at points. This happened a few times and didn't detract from the story too much but is worth mentioning. I also really appreciated how the cute girl he meets online keeps their relationship platonic throughtout the book.Overall I would recommend this to anyone who likes the litRPG genre or who is interested in checking it out.

I received an ARC from Portal Books in exchange for an honest review.The pros:Occultist is written in a light, pleasant style, which is entertaining and easy to get through. The characters are relatable and sympathetic, even if they occasionally make choices that make me look at them a little funny.Fight scenes are smooth and progress nicely, and the story has very little that feels like fluff or filler. I especially loved the humor of the scenes, and found the sarcasm very well executed.The other real strength that I found in this book was that, despite being a LitRPG, it balanced the genres well and didn't forego a story for game mechanics. I'm not the sort who really loves heavy, drawn-out sequences of stat boxes, and despite that, the story was able to be coherent and enjoyable for me.The cons:I felt that there were issues in tone with this book, with different sections feeling like they were written for wildly different audiences. I could never quite get my feet under me with that.The world was lovingly created, but at the same time, there wasn't enough support given to its dystopian nature. Characters would behave in ways that seemed very unusual/unreasonable/unrealistic, with the justification just sort of lumped together under the umbrella of "the world is hard", and it didn't feel convincing to me.Fight scenes flowed well, yes, and I found them pleasant enough to read, but they never made me feel like the main character was in danger. He cut his way through enemies with ease, which left the fight scenes feeling distant and disconnected to me.My greatest issue with Occultist was that key moments in the story felt rather contrived. Things would progress reasonably, and then when the plot needed to progress something implausible or impractical would happen, like the main character being afraid to do a google search for his invalid mother for fear of being tracked yet being totally comfortable using her credit card to buy stuff (only realizing his mistake later for dramatic effect). The central concept of the book was the greatest offender of this for me - I didn't find the scenario of the main character winding up stranded in a dungeon and finding a hidden class trainer to be believable/reasonable.Final thoughts:Despite what I've said, I truly did find Occultist an enjoyable read. It wasn't a struggle to get through, and I found myself laughing out loud in places. I think it has its points which can be improved upon, but it's really strong, especially in the LitRPG genre. I would happily read something else by this author, and I wish him the best of luck with this release.

The book as a whole was a very good read with a nice balance of in game action and real world action! There were a few mechanics that didn't seem to work correctly but over all a good read!

I recommend this book, it was a very enjoyable read, I liked the characters and had a good amount of action.

Couldn't put it down. Spent 6 hours reading it before I realized what time it was, and then wanted to re-read it. Can't wait for the next book! Perfect amount of LITRPG, no 15 pages of tables every chapter, no harem, just pure entertainment.

I thoroughly enjoyed the read, it wasn’t quite what I’d expected when I picked it up, but it certainly wrapped me in.

Good character and world building. A new and unique spin on a story thats been told before. Loved the character build and choice of class and skills. Hope to see more not only from author but more in this series.

We have a friend who operated a B & B in Sandpoint, Idaho. There were two rooms that they would rent out....one was calle the "Alaska Room", the other the "Texas Room". We often stayed in the Texas Room where she had several books displayed about Texas. I purchased this book for her because I thought it fit perfectly with the room's theme. She was so surprised when I gave it to her and then she surprised us by making several of the breakfast recipes for us during our stays there. The book was well written, great pictures, and easy to follow instructions. She said it was a perfect gift and I think so too!

This cookbook is very well organized, has great pictures, & makes you just want to rush to these wonderful Texas Bed and Breakfast & enjoy the delectable recipes. It features many of the Great Stays of Texas Bed and Breakfasts recipes, and lists new time-saving variations of age-old recipes. It also gives interesting information about the inns and innkeepers.

The authors of this cookbook did a wonderful job of capturing the look and spirit of Texas. The recipes are as diverse and as interesting as our great state. This is a recipe collection that you'll want to share with all your friends and family. Don't miss the recipe for "Artichoke and Spinach Queso" a wonderful Texas twist on a traditional appetizer.

The reading content about handling IBS and diet in this book is invaluable. However as a vegan, I can only create a small amount of recipes as Heather uses a lot of egg whites in her cooking. I can replace with a flax egg for some recipes, but in some of her breads she uses SIX egg whites and I am not sure how a flax egg will work in that. I will try and experiment using aquafaba on some recipes. But the recipes where meat is the main protein I cannot eat. I would love for Heather to come out with a vegan cookbook, especially since Heather admits the more she figures out the IBS the higher the probability she will become vegan. Cutting out eggs has been essential to my IBS, and I just generally feel better cutting out meat products not necessarily correlated with my IBS on that front though.

I have learned so much and can now understand why I was sick a lot in my teens and then into my 30's but that al needed with radical surgery to remove my entire colon in 1976. I was 36. This book is amazing but IBS is not what I had. I truly had ulcerative colitis for 5 years. I am now 78 years old and have lived with my little rosebud only side for 42 years. BUT...both my daughters are living with IBS and they LOVE this book.

Oh my goodness... I do not have words to describe how thankful I am for this book! I have suffered for years with IBS and I have been told that I had to just "deal" with it, or take tons of drugs with scary sounding side-effects. When I started reading this book I was taking 4 medicines from my GI and I was STILL having episodes of IBS.To start off with, just reading that there are other people going through what I am going through and that I am not crazy/it's not all in my head... because a lot of Dr's try to say IBS is a mental problem. It was wonderful just to know I was not alone and that I wasn't a freak for having an internal GPS of all the bathrooms in the area!Now that I have implemented what I read, I am on NO medicine, and I rarely ever have an episode. If I do, it's because I didn't follow the rules and I always can pinpoint the exact culprit, which makes it easier to avoid that food next time. I honestly didn't do the recipes in the book, I just used the informational part of the book, and it was just what I needed. But I am glad I read through the recipes because I use some of the substitutions suggested and they work perfect - no IBS, same great taste.I wish I could give this book to every GI doctor on the planet, and put it in the waiting rooms; everyone seriously NEEDS to read it. If you are suffering from IBS, it will change your life!

I've personally been ill-stricken with the unforgiveable disease known to many as IBS. And like most sufferes, I too have fallen victim to the midnight hospital vitists, numerous testing (ultra-sounds, CT scans, & blood work), and impassive doctors that draw no possible conclusions except for to eat more fiber & drink more water. For 4 years, my quality of life has been jeaopardized and is something, no looking back in regaret, I can't take back.One word to describe this illness? Miserable. One word to describe this book? Godsend. The description of the illness is well-written with easy literature that even a teenager could understand. First 20% is vital information needed to understand how IBS affects the average sufferer - a crash course in biology. The last 80% includes recipes to help kick-start your diet change. Unfortuntate for me, I live in Hawaii where many of the ingredients are either hard to locate or are very expensive. But, nothing a whole foods store can't fix! In addition, my only complaint at this point is that I have to modify a lot of my meals for both myself and my family. They prefer my "old style" of cooking, but since giving up red meats, this task has been a lil more overwhelming than I anticipated. Either way, if you're considering this book for purchase, you won't regret it!

When I developed IBS some years ago, there wasn't too much available to explain what was going on. I was seeing a doctor who gave me a short list of things to avoid, but his time was so limited that I needed some other help. I found this book which was so helpful, and is still my Go To for information. It's more than a cookbook. The author really describes what's happening to you, and gives good information about what you can and can't eat. Heather Van Vorous is THE guru for IBS. My local health food store carries several of her products which I use daily. A friend was recently diagnosed with IBS and I loaned her this book. She loved it so much she ordered her own copy. A Must for anyone with IBS.

I like this cookbook as I am learning how to cook for my son who has a severe case of IBS. This book has a nice introduction section, helping me understand what he can/cannot eat and why. This book is well organized and has a lot of recipes. Some menus are included as well. I am so glad I bought this book.

I really had a hard time putting this book, but there was so much good information that you need to absorb.I am keeping this book as a reference book and recommending it to those friends of mine that are interested in a diet for IBS. The author is a patient of IBS and is not an authoritive doctor on the matter. Her descriptions of symptoms and treatments are right on with my life and that of those people who followed her blog. The number one reason why she came up with this guideline/book.

I don't profess to be a book reviewer so keep expectations low. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I am a student of the two World Wars and this book gave some great insights into the events that became the First World War. It was more than simply the assassination of Archduke Francis Ferdinand. There was a good amount of intrigue, misunderstandings, jealousy, and arrogance. Three cousins. Two who looked uncannily alike. And yet they were unable -- or unwilling -- to avoid a war. The book delves into their lifestyles, their routines, their loves, their losses using writings from the people who were privy to their lives. It paints an interesting and telling picture of how the monarchs of Europe lived their lives and gives good reason as to why their monarchies crumbles. Their fascination with ceremony, uniforms, wealth, and power coupled with their complete insensitivity to the people in their realms led to their downfall as much as anything else happening around them. Rather than make an effort to understand the political and humanitarian movements of the day they chose to insulate themselves in their many homes allowing the leaders of the various causes freedom to organize. There is insight into why King George V refused asylum to Tsar Nicholas II and his family leading to their massacre. With the fall of the Romanovs a domino effect started that led to the end of long existing dynasties. It is all written in a very readable style. A page turner. Recommend to those interested in the causes of WWI and those interested in the fall of the monarchy in Europe.

It's only as I'm older that I've come to political history/biography. Not an expert, just a fan. I've been watching Victoria on PBS while reading this, which is kind of fun since she is in some ways a focal point of this book's beginning, but because of her longevity she appears regularly through most of it. The three men of the title are her grandsons in some fashion (the pedigree charts provided in the preface are VERY much appreciated). All 3 spent time with her on vacation (if royalty is ever NOT on vacation) and at family events. All wrote loving notes back and forth and it's fascinating to read the excerpts that crop up in the book. That they ended up sending their citizens to fight and die across completely avoidable battle lines (with scary resemblance to current events) is a more potent tragedy because it really comes off as a family affair as well as a political one. The threads all pull together right at the end, and all I wanted to do was immediately read it over.

They dutifully supported their troops during World War One, pinning medals on soldiers while obliviously living well. George as the figurehead of a Constitutional Monarchy made it through the war all right. The monarchies of Nicholas and Wilhelm, both whom actually had some political power, were destroyed.About 2/3 of the way through the book I began to get bored with these all too-human cousins and their very real family feelings--of love, quibbling, and one-upmanship. Whenever I got restless I would leave the book and come back to it later. The ending and the epilogue were the story we are all familiar with--Nicky and his family are brutally murdered, Wilhelm is exiled to Holland, George is a minor player."George, Nicholas and Wilhelm" is definitely worth reading. I rather expected this heavy tome to be heavy going. I was pleasantly surprised to find it moved at a brisk pace, was skillfully written, and told a ripping good tale. The period covered - the events of the last decades of the 19th century and leading up to the first World War - has not been the focus of much literary attention in recent years. Miranda Carter, using a plethora of primary and secondary sources, brings this period to vivid life. The three royal personages of the title, George V, Tsar Nicholas, and Kaiser Wilhelm, prove remarkably interesting considering they were either ordinary or worse than ordinary. They ruled during the last years of European royalty, and only the English king managed to survive the Great War. I look forward to finding some of the historical sources listed in the comprehensive bibliography for further reading. This book is an excellent starting point on the origins of World War I and the characters of its royal protagonists.

I love the anime so I started with season three manga books. Can't wait for the third season of the anime! Overall, I think the story is really good and the book is well drawn.The only issue I have is the intense awkwardness of the scene where they're all in Deku's hospital room. It also kinda broke my heart to watch them argue about wether they should go save Bakugou or not. I'm really attached to the characters so it was really hard to watch them fight and say such harsh things to each other. But I got to see my waifu (Todoroki) so I was content. But still, amazing story, amazing characters and amazing drawings.

It continues to get more serious, you just feel for the characters as loss & damage is shown rather quickly on. Only to lead into conflict within on what our heroes should do next to save their friend from the hands of evil.

Horikoshi's well developed characters and unusually fast paced arcs bless me yet again.I can't wait til Volume 11 gets released in English, so I can support the series once more, officially!(KIRISHIMA IS BEST BOY)
