Full disclosure, we're friends with one of the creators, so that drove us to get the book for our kids (3 and 7). The book made our seven year old really interested in understanding more about coding, and our three year old has asked us to read it like 3 times in one day just because he likes the story even though he doesn't really understand the coding part. The fact that the story consciously has diverse characters is great.
Rox is a strong, sassy and ingenious character. She uses her intelligence and creativity to problem solve. Great role model for girls..and boys!...and a way to introduce practical applications of technology, as well as some "painless" learning.. And...the readers (and their parents) get a chance to practice their own creativity and problem solving skills through an app that provides opportunities for kids to work their own magic.
What a fun story! I love the combination of humor and heart-warming moments. My girls, ages 2 and 5, love Rox. And I love that she's not just a tough cookie, she's a smart one. The book introduces kids to coding but that doesn't get in the way of the story. My girls, ages 2 and 5, have started playing 'robot' around the house. Soon I'll have them give the app a shot. And I may have to find a kids coding class for them to check out!
We got this book yesterday and my daughter (and I) know it nearly by heart. It has a solid place by her bed. We both love it. It is beautifully written, great illustrations and so empowering for all the little ladies out there. As a father of 2 girls I love being able to get them excited about what they could do in the future - whatever they want to do.
My 3.5 year old daughter and I both love reading this book! Rox is smart, clever and introduces coding in a way that has my daughter playing “build a robot†hours later. So many kids books seem to force rhymes or have incomplete stories but Rox’s Secret Code avoids both of those tiresome traps. Highly recommended!!
Amazing story - exciting and hilarious- with an empowering message for young girls. Rox is a very cool and very smart problem solver!!
It is a great book for kids. I have a 2 year old little boy and a 5 month old baby girl. They both love the characters and design... the little one stares at the cover trying to roll over and catch it. The story is really fun and entertaining for the older one!
