About the Author

Gaby Rodriguez made national headlines in 2011 when, as a seventeen-year-old high school senior from Toppenish, Washington, she revealed she had faked a pregnancy for a class project. Her experience inspired a Lifetime movie, also titled The Pregnancy Project. Her grades were in the top 5 percent of her graduating class, and she was a commencement speaker. She was also in the ASB Leadership group and president of the school’s chapter of M.E.Ch.A (Movimiento Estudiantil de Chicanos de Aztlan: Chicano Student Movement of Aztlan). She was raised by her single mom and has seven brothers and sisters. She is currently attending college. Jenna Glatzer wrote the text of Celine Dion, which is produced by becker&mayer. Jenna is the author of 11 books and countless articles in national, regional, and online publications. The writer recently worked extensively with Jamie Blyth of The Bachelorette on Blyth's autobiography. This seems like an ideal book to have students read in a debate class. There have been plenty of discussions regarding the ethics of what Gaby did, but I personally feel she made a great contribution to non-fiction teen literature. The harassment that her boyfriend (Jorge) had to endure really did highlight reasons why boys leave teen moms. If anything, this book shows that we as a society contribute greatly to the problems of pregnant teens. There is a place between celebrating teen moms (via shows like Teen Mom) and casting them out in the streets and treating them like garbage. We need to be more supportive of our girls and give them confidence they will need in order to be good mothers.One of the characters I was most conflicted about in this book was Gaby's sister, Jessica. At first, I really disliked her for what she put Gaby through when she was younger. But, during the project, Jessica was one of her few allies. I think that through the pregnancy, Jessica changed for the better. Instead of rubbing Gaby's face in her mistake, she showed support for Gaby that Jessica herself did not receive when she was pregnant.

As a high school counselor, I absolutely enjoyed this book. Teen pregnancy occurs every year in high school and this book appropriately address the importance of protection and abstinence, but also how to help lift up people when they are already in a situation they cannot change. Apart from the topic of teen pregnancy, the book addresses stereotypes and questions why we stereotype people, how we need to lift others up and be a part of the solution and not the problem. Very empowering and encouraging to see what our youth can accomplish.

Fun. quick read. interesting that it's based on high school, but adults can learn to: NOT TO JUDGE. Also, it taught me to think about the feelings of those teens who are pregnant.

The book is something a teenager could relate to. It brings back those harsh memories in high school where you didnt really fit in, or felt alone. The stereotypes, rumors, and hurtful words that are said in the hallways, classrooms, facebook and twitter really do get to you. Those words hurt. I will never understand why people speak so badly of people they don't know, or backstab their bestfriend of so many years. It takes a lot for me to sit still long enough to read a book for 20 minutes, but i did love this book, and managed to sit a couple hours. It's a story of this girls life, her background, her history. This girl, like everyone else, has a story to tell. Get to know the people around you before you talk a word about others, because people can suprise you. This book is a great way to understand someone who has so little, and breaks those stereotypes, racial comments, and the bad reputation a person can have in high school. <3

I was intrigued by the concept of this book and anxious to see if it would be appropriate for my high school library. I am happy to report that I found it well-written and thoughtful. Gaby is very believable in explaining how she came up with the idea for the pregnancy project, how it turned out to be more difficult and painful than she anticipated, and how she coped with the totally unexpected and overwhelming media reaction.

I absolutely loved this book. It gave me a whole new outlook on just about everything. I learned that judging a book by its cover, is never ok. And that you never know what someone's background is. I definitely recommend this book for everyone! Such a great story to be heard.

This is a really great and inspiring story. I read this for a school project and it's one of the few books for school that I read that's not horribly boring. There are parents and few friends saying this book isn't appropriate for my kids my age. I'm an incoming freshman. They are very wrong. Kids my age and probably younger need to be educated more on this subject. In the book she talks about how her mom got pregnant and dropped out at my age. Her mom's not the first person in the world to have to go through that. That fact alone is enough reason why younger kids need to read this book and know about this stuff. I recommend this book to everyone.

I have had this book for around 8-10 years. When I would have someone new over and show them some of my intriguing items, this was often a book I would show. People would act like I was weird for being an adult, and having a "children's book" regarding the Holocaust of all things. I would explain that hatred in the world is all too alive and real, and how we need to be much more supportive of positivity, loving each other, and promoting what's good and teaching why what's bad is bad (negativity). A lot of "skin deep" people still found it weird, a lot of open-minded people thought it was great that such a book existed.Currently, a few days ago, there was a current event that dealt with extreme hatered, racism, etc... nobody is wondering why I have the book and show it to people now. They get it, they finally realized the sad reality of the things that we keep lurking in the shadows...

This book is based on the premise that the Holocaust would not have happened had the civilians of Germany objected to their neighbors being harmed. This is then framed as an allegory with woodland animals who are being taken away one group at a time by the "Terrible Things." The story's ending is not happy and saccharine, but instead sad and foreboding--which seems appropriate for the subject matter. The book presents a difficult topic in a way that conveys the seriousness of it without making it too scary.As a high school teacher, I use this book in conjunction with the "First They Came for the Socialists" text to demonstrate how an author can adapt a message for different audiences. My high school students enjoy the book for this activity.The illustrations are beautiful and convey the seriousness of the topic as well.

I teach 4th grade. This year I decided to do Number the Stars. It is a simple book that deals with the horrors of Nazi persecution. Since my students have no prior knowledge of the Holocaust, I wanted to find a picture book that dealt with the issues in a profound yet accessible way. This book surpassed my expectations. I kids really respond to it (I do it as a read aloud), and it spurs great discussion. I highly recommend this book to any teacher who is teaches about Nazi Germany. As Little Rabbit says, "Hopefully someone will listen." so that it never happens again.

This book is lastingly powerful. My wife, a storyteller, just read it to the kids and congregation at our corner church. She also told them a little bit about Yom HaShoah, the Holocaust Day of Remembrance, which is happening today. I've read and heard this book many times, and it moves me every time. This is my all time favorite way to introduce children and adults to the Holocaust and other forms of attacks on groups of people."If we don't hang together, we all hang separately" becomes a much more vivid truism about how to live life. The images livein the minds of those who know this book. Much like ANIMAL FARM - it is an allegory that is timeless.

I'm always a little shy when it comes to the Holocaust and my students. I want to make sure I treat it with the respect it deserves, but also make sure I'm not overexposing my students. This is a great book that teaches about us all working together to protect everyone no matter what animal/shape/form. This book does not have to be to teach Holocaust, but could be about working together to protect bullying and many other lessons. Great addition to your library.

I love this book! I am a teacher, and I use this in my unit on the Holocaust. The kids (6-8th grade) enjoy discussing the symbolism.

This book is an excellent analogy for children to understand the Holocaust. After reading it myself I found it had an extremely useful purpose for young children today. So I gave it to my niece who is a primary school teacher to read to her students to teach them how to react to BULLIES. It is beautifully written (it does not actually mention "war-Nazi's-Holocaust" in the text)and is an essential book for anyone to read to children who are either being bullied or to prevent them from being bullied. Thumbs up!

Hey, Folks, This lovely book is identical in content to the other Pius X catechism being sold on Amazon, which I also have. As you may know, in the 1800s, the "Bishop of Mantua ( later St. Pius X)... [wanted to create]...a simple, plain, brief, and popular Catechism for uniform use all over the world." So here it is. It is, of course, in Q & A format and these are the main subjects: The Apostle's Creed, prayer, the Sacraments,the Commandments of God, the precepts of the Church,virtues and vices, and miscellaneous subjects. ( identical in both books.) I prefer this book because there is decent spacing between the questions and answers although the type is smaller. In the other catechism the questions and answers form a solid page--no real spacing, larger type, however. This book is the same size as the other,about 9" x6" with 155 pages. As testimony to my comments, I have just purchased 10 copies to give to my wayward Catholic family and friends to read before the Chastisement really ramps up. Note that this book is almost half the price of the other book. Sweet.

I picked this book up at a KW ALC clinic last October directly from Karen. Unfortunately, I didn't actually pick it up to read until January! This book is a very clever inside guide to the entire business of real estate. This is really a simple business, but it is not easy! Karen delves into a tiny piece of the business each day in a one page story. Every one pager is on point! It will remind you of so many aspects of practicing real estate that are lost in our day to day busy-ness. For the individual thinking about becoming an agent, this is MUST READ. Before you take that leap of faith, you owe it to yourself to gain exposure to every nook and cranny of being a successful agent. I don't think there is a better primer out there! I find her writing style to be pragmatic yet friendly. This is a must have book for all real estate professionals. They key to business after all is consistent, steady effort over time and this book delivers methods to keep at it.

What a great read! This book is chock full of useful information not just for people that work in real estate but for anyone that wants to develop a mindset for success and service. It is about developing discipline, setting an intention for each day and aligning personal and professional values. It is so clear in reading Karen's book that she views her work far beyond 'sales', this is her life work and she excels because she understands what it means to be of service.

A truly excellent book by an intelligent, researched author. My only small issue is that at times, the writer tries too hard to prove oneself and loses objectivity, and occasionally even alters the story or conversation by directing chat room participants not to discuss illegal activities. That is not reporting the story, that is creating it. Still, the book is informative and educational, and a great overview of the Anonymous subject.

I found this book incredibly informative and interesting. I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning more about Anonymous. The author's "anthropologist" approach was for the most part very good but I felt there were certain extraneous, self-effacing details that the book could've done without which is why I gave this book 4 stars instead of 5.

I've been reading this over the past few weeks when I get a free moment. I enjoyed it a lot. I remember hearing about the various Anonymous activities over the last few years. It was great to get an "embedded journalist" view of what was going on on the inside of the group.

In my view, this is the best book on Anonymous out there. Gabriella Coleman provides an unvarnished view of the Anon movement, from its early genesis and first hacks under Project Chanology to expose the cult of Scientology, through its genesis as a political force during the Arab Spring and so-called Moralfaggotry, to LulzSec and AntiSec.Today, a federal judge sentenced journalist Barrett Brown to 5 years and a fine of $890K JUST FOR LINKING to Anonymous-hacked material from Stratfor Global Intelligence; he didn't actually hack anyone! Jeremy Hammond (sup_g), who did the actual hack, was sentenced to the maximum allowed under his plea agreement and is currently serving a ten-year sentence at a medium-security federal prison in Manchester, Kentucky.Coleman weaves all of this together like a tightly packed thriller, keeping the reader on the edge of his seat. The book's only flaw -- and it's a very minor one -- is that she tends to be somewhat enamored of her subject, and one wonders just how objective she's being in covering some of the movement's activities. But, as an Anonymous fan myself, this is a quibble. At least she has some passion for her subject compared to many of the rather anemic works out there.Coleman really captures the love of lulz, the fun of the movement that drives so many hackers. She really, really gets it.If you have any interest in this movement and in the dozens and dozens of sub-movements it has spawned, READ THIS BOOK. As a writer of techno-thrillers like 404 and the forthcoming dEATH in dAVOS, which cover Anonymous extensively, I am forever in Coleman's debt for her insights and her bravery. Let's hope she doesn't meet the fate of Barrett Brown and so many other journalists who have taken it upon themselves to understand Anonymous and the hacker mind.

I couldn't put the book down. Gabi did a great job outlining the events and stories surrounding anonymous. It made me want learn more about the hacking world, and how can we better protect ourselves. If only we knew how vulnerable we actually are..

A detailed history of the hacker community "Anon" from the perspective of a sociologist. You won't get detailed technical insight into the methods used to get into the target websites and networks, but you will get a good feeling for the very special community that organizes these attacks.

Solid. The language of anthropology I don't quite get but I loved the 'trickster' history that ties centuries together. And I have renewed faith in humanity
