Tobias Heussner is an experienced Game Content / Narrative Designer who started developing games in high school. He has worked on more than 18 published titles ranging from AAA PC games to handheld console games and Free2Play browser games. His areas of expertise include Game Content Design, Game Narrative Design/Writing, Game System Design and Game Production. Toiya Kristen Finley has 20 years of experience as a writer and editor in several media. In games, she has worked as a game designer, narrative designer, and game writer (or some combination of the three) on several indie, social, and mobile games for children and general audiences, including Academagia: The Making of Mages and Fat Chicken. With Tobias Heussner, she co-founded the Game Writing Tutorial at GDC Online and served as an instructor. Jennifer Brandes Hepler got her start in tabletop game development, working for well-known properties such as Shadowrun and Paranoia before detouring to Hollywood to work on CBS Television’s The Agency. She then spent eight years as a senior writer and narrative designer at Bioware, on the Dragon Age franchise and Star Wars: The Old Republic. She is now lead writer on Game of Thrones: Ascent. Ann Lemay joined the video-game industry in 1997. Over the years she’s worked as a game designer, narrative designer, and writer on a wide range of projects. This is an amazing resource for anyone with an interest in games. The authors are leaders in their field and have included very detailed advice in this book. It also includes questions to ask as you develop a game, considerations for world building, character development, and writing dialogue. They even included several interviews with other game writers/ designers throughout, in a way that leaves you feeling ready to jump into the world of the narrative designer.Oh, and the book includes exercises to help you prepare your portfolio for the job application process, so you have no excuses!

What an amazing resource to anyone in games. This came recommended by Warren Spector as one of his books to read to understand more about game narrative. This is great for anyone who wants to know what being a writer for games is all about. It's also great for any game dev who wants to understand more about the process that goes into creating stories in games and how writers use more than words to craft the whole experience. Author Terry Brooks brings us a short story focusing on the Durid Allanon who is searching for the last of the Shannara blood line. During his quest we find out that the Warlock Lord has returned and that his skull wraths are also are also looking for anyone in the Shannara line in order to kill them. This short story reminds me of the series that has come out the Shannara chronicles but the series has adapted events differently than they are in the books but that's not a bad thing. It was the series that really got me into reading these books and I am looking forward to reading the next two shorts in the Paladains of Shannara trilogy. I highly recommend this short story to any Fantasy fan.   Â

Allanon’s Quest sets the scene rather nicely for what’s to come in the story that started it all, The Sword of Shannara.Allanon – sole surviving Druid of Paranor – has waited for centuries for signs of the Warlock Lord’s return. Those signs are now manifesting and he must move to counter the danger while he still can.Easier said than done, for it would appear the Warlock Lord has anticipated Allanon’s strategy and is already eliminating any and all threats to his machinations.What form that takes quickly becomes apparent and helps us understand why it is that Shea Ohmsford of Shady Vale is the only person alive who can hope to save the day.

I have read many of Terry Brooks books dealing with the Elissidils and the Druids. I have them in book form but plan to have Amazon.com put all that I have on my Kindle. I have a bit of arthritis in my hands making it difficult to hold large books because of their bulky weight. My Kindle weighs almost nothing and obtaining books for my Kindle is easier and faster than getting up in the morning. Since I aquired this modern day marvel reading has become a complete delight. I love it.I would give this book 4 1/2 stars. It is a wonderful tale about a Druid, Allanon, who goes in search of the last remaining blood relative of the Shannara family. All the others have been wiped out by Dark Lord who was once a Druid but passed to the dark side. His mission is urgent as only a true blood relative will be able to wield the famous Sword of Shannara and finally kill the Brone the Warlock Lord who went evil a long time ago.Allanon was searching for a man called Eldra Derrivanian. He was the keeper of records for the Elessidils, the royal family, because he would be the only person who would have such information. Allanon enters a tavern in the small villiage of Archer Trace to ask the location of Derrivanian. The Druid is not well received. He is seven feet tall and dark complected and dressed in black robes. of course the barkeeper is suspicious and does not willingly give out information. However the Druid has special secret abilities to garner what he wants.He then follows instructions and finds Derrivanian's house and as he enters he is aware of something that isn't quite right. Derrivanian very reluctantly gives him the information he wants. He finds the person who is supposedly the last of the Elessidil's blood line. He walks right into a trap only to discover that at his own hands, albiet unwittingly, the heir is killed. Allanon is engaged in a battle for his life agains the Skull Bearers the dark Lord's death squad.Allanon returns to Archer Trace to confront Derrivanian who he is sure has betrayed. him. This is when Derrivanian confesses that he did set up the Druid and explains why. He also explains that there is one last of the blood line. The Druid then embarks on a journey to find this last, and until now unknown, heir. Here the tale comes to an end and leaves one with the huge desire to read the book that follows. Terry Brooks never disapponts. He is a great teller of tales.Bookwormetc

I couldn't resist the allure of a 99-cent Terry Brooks story for my iPad. Bought it and read it almost in one move. Overall, I think it was money well-spent. For 99 cents, I was transported to another world and took up a quest with Allanon, Brook's fabled druid. That environment came alive around me and the pacing marched steadily along.I liked riding with Allanon as he was starting out on his great mission to find the last heir of Shannara, but so much of that story is already known, and has been known for a couple decades now. Still, there was some good action and Allanon is one of those heroes that commands attention.On the downside, the overall story IS known. I had no worries that Allanon was going to fail or get killed. His ultimate success in finding the heir lies ahead of him at the end of this story, so nothing is truly resolved.The story reads like the initial series of events in Dracula, what became the short story "Dracula's Guest." Only in Bram Stoker's case, that short story was cut from the novel. This story could easily be wedded to The Sword of Shannara as a prologue although it was written decades after the fact.This is supposed to be the first of three such stories, but I can't find any information about the other two. Presumably they will be along soon.

This wasn't the best (too short) but it was very worthwhile on a few levels, i.e.1. It was by Terry Brooks and about Allanon and Shannara2. It was only 99cents3. After the few minutes it took to read it, I decided to re-read the Sword of Shannara Trilogy.I'd forgotten how much I enjoyed the first books about Shannara and after reading the short story it helped to better understand Allanon. I even found that I liked him much better this time around than when I first read the books.Since purchasing and reading the short story, I have thoroughly enjoyed going back and getting reacquainted with the original stories of the Sword, Elf Stones and the Wish song. These three are my favorite Brooks books and I've read them all. Surprisingly, I enjoyed reading them more this time than when I first read them long ago.I consider this short story to be one of the best investments of a dollar that I've made.

This is my first experience with an e-book. Reading a book on a computer takes some getting used to and may be different on a reading device such as a Kindle. I don't think I would enjoy reading a book of considerable length on a computer. The book itself was enjoyable and added to the Shannara story. I recommend the story to anyone following Terry Brooks Shannara series.

Quite informative book for anyone looking to get into owning Cockatiels. These birds are wonderful, and are so much more than simply "starter birds" (which unfortunately makes them sound like "throw aways," which they absolutely are not). Cockatiels are very friendly and loving, and quite entertaining. This book really covers a lot of areas, and is very descriptive. Well recommended.

This book tells you everything you need to know about cockatiels! It tells you what to feed you cockatiel, what size if cage you will need, how train him, and how to pick out a healthy cockatiel, and much more! It even discusses colour mutations! It's really worth the money!

I'ts a good basic book to read I think. I didn't know anything about cockatiels until I read this book so I can't be a great judge, but after reading this book I would personally say It's good and straight forward without being complicated and you will get a basic knowledge about how to raise them and enjoy them.

This book is s must have for bird lovers. The book is well written and very informative!

This series is really well done. The arrangements are easy to play and the layout is very well done. I was able to sight-read most of the pieces that I'm familiar with pretty well, and that speaks to the quality of the arranger's job. It's also a really good selection of music from the era. We've had hours of fun with it and expect to have many more.

This New Decade Series is fantastic! The backtracks are authentic and piano parts work well! I keep playing them over and over!

This book changed my approach to paying for college. We have been faithfully putting money into our children's college funds and funding our retirement, but this book really opened my eyes to the big picture by asking two important questions, "How close to retirement age will you be when your last child graduates? And when he or she does graduate, how financially ready will you be for retirement?"This is not a last-minute, quick fix for scrounging up money when your child is a senior. But for those late in the game (a child in high school), it does do an excellent job of explaining how financial aid works, why you should fill out the application for aid even you're sure you won't get any, and what to do with your assets (and when) to increase the possibility that you will get aid. It also gives advice on working with colleges to see if your child can get a better aid package than the one he or she was initially awarded.I also really liked the fact that the book isn't just about getting financial aid. Just because you don't qualify for federal aid doesn't mean that paying for college is easy. The author does a nice job giving examples of strategies for a variety of income levels. We won't qualify for need-based aid, but I learned that there is more I can do in terms of our savings and investments to help pay for college.The book also isn't just about the money. I appreciated the discussion on the importance of selecting the right college, not just sending my child to what she thinks is her dream college. I have changed my mind about the importance of the college visit prior to making a decision. I didn't do this when I chose a college, but will now think of that as an investment rather than an optional, possibly unnecessary expense.Overall, this book gave me a much greater appreciation for the interconnectedness of my two most important financial goals in life and very useful strategies for working toward fulfilling both. I think they should hand this book out at the doctor's office along with "What to Expect When You're Expecting." We have done a decent job with our finances over the years but I wish I had had this epiphany back when my first child was a baby. I have highlighted passages in this book, which I never do, and will keep it close by until my last child orders her collegiate cap and gown.

Read this book as soon as you can if you have kids you plan to ever send to college. At the latest, read it it early in your student's Sophomore or Junior year in high school. Even if you don't think you will qualify for aid.I have done my own taxes and retirement accounts for decades and thought I knew everything and was doing everything right for college. Tim's book clearly explained how colleges calculate the Expected Family Contribution (EFC) and how they use that to determine financial aid. He lays out simple strategies for legally minimizing your EFC and increasing your chances for aid. Although I was doing things well, Tim lays out some even better strategies.There was one small detail in the book I was unclear about, so I emailed the author. He replied the same day with a very clear explanation.

This book brings together in one resource two topics that are inextricably linked; paying for retirement and college. It helped answer many of the remaining questions I had after reading other books on college OR retirement. My personal recommendation if you have a child (or children) is to read this book and implement his strategies. By far the best money I have spent on a book for navigating the shoals of retirement AND college.

As a CPA, I am amazed at the numerous amounts of literature which rely on the repetitive mainstream concepts of "one-size-fits-all" planning. Tim's book is a refreshing look into customized preparation and execution for the common consumer. His material is presented with critical analysis and easy to understand concepts. His focus on the individuality of the customer is a thoughtful and stimulating read. I look forward to his further publications.

I had visited a college planning seminar and started to become aware of all the intricacies of the FAFSA form and financial aid, in general. I found this book on Amazon and it completely changed the way I'm looking at financing my daughter's education. I've already started moving money around to ensure I get the most favorable treatment when colleges consider aid. I wish I had read this five years ago, instead of during my daughter's junior year in high school, but there's still plenty of time to implement strategy based on the lucid and concise guidance provided by Tim Higgins. Now if I could just get him to write a book on how to prepare for the CSS Profile form, things would be perfect!

Excellent book! I would recommend this book especially to "first time" college parents. It was a quick read, with valuable and "to the point" suggestions. It made us feel better about NOT breaking the bank for a simple bachelor's degree. (save your $$$ for grad school)

This book is a must-read for any one who has children or grand-children going to college. We live in a different world now. And we need to be ready. With higher education tied to the job market, understanding the financial investment about to be made is no longer a luxury, it is a necessity. This book belongs on the book shelves of anyone with children or grandchildren. Don't let your children leave home without it.

Tim breaks down the tools needed to navigate the confusing and complicated world of College Financing. I refer back to his book often and highly recommend it to parents. Do not wait until your student is a Jr or Sr as there are wonderful planning tips for the younger ages!

This was required reading for an innovation and entrepreneurship class, but it is a pleasure to read. I very much appreciate how straightforward and practical it is. The text teaches you the steps to identifying real problems that can be solved through sustainable and marketable means. It gets to the point without being full of academic theory blah blah. I plan to hang onto this one and use it in pursuing my own entrepreneurial interests.I should mention that the ebook requires a larger screen, so I only read it in my laptop. There is also a helpful website with additional resources including explanatory videos that you get free access to.

The 2nd Edition of the Biodesign book did not disappoint! The philosophy and methodology shared in the 1st edition helped MedTech serial entrepreneurs, venture capital leaders, start-up employees, and corporate intrapreneurs to reinvent or evolve their approaches to uncovering game changing innovation. This edition really helped to build on those approaches with additional case studies and examples -- including globalization strategies and value creation models needed in our changing healthcare landscape. In addition, I really enjoyed the companion videos with advice and examples from leading experts to help bring the book's content to life. This book is a must have for proven leaders as well as aspiring MedTech innovators!

This was donated to our local high school library in memory of one of our school board member's family. It was recommended by our media specialist/librarian and 2 of our Bio-Medical teachers for a new course study our students have available.

Great text book- up to date with many current case studies

Biodesign: The Process of Innovating Medical Technologies is an absolute MUST READ for medical device entrepreneurs. By bringing together the necessary elements from medicine, engineering and business, it teaches the process of medical device innovation. I am using the new edition to teach students, residents and faculty the Biodesign process to address the most compelling unmet needs in Neuro. There are a number of factors that one must consider at the very beginning, when thinking about an unmet clinical need. Factors ranging from Regulatory, Reimbursement, IP, Competitive Landscape and Clinical Trials, are some of the many considerations that Biodesign teaches through a series of real world vignettes and customized videos in the new edition.
