As a teenager, I had many issues with my skin, including excessively oily, acne, blackheads, whiteheads, large pores, and uneven skin tone. These of course were issues I battled throughout my youth. My mother spent countless of dollars on dermatologist's suggested products that seemed to further irritate my skin. During my freshman year of college, I purchased this book and it literally changed my approach to dealing with my skin. Not only did it give me an actual plan for gorgeous skin, but it also provided treatments and gave clear details on their effectiveness for my issues. I've come a long way from someone who had very homely, unattractive skin to someone who receives compliments about my skin on a regular basis.

Unfortunately most people do not understand that people of African decent have unique dermatological challenges that do not affect other races. Dr. Taylor has done a phenomenal job of both publicizing this and addressing things that we need to do to improve the health of our skin. I don't agree with everything she says 100%, particularly as it relates to diet and acne, but she has done a better job of addressing dermatology for people of color than anyone else I have seen or read to date.In addition to really enjoying her book I travel from NYC to Philadelphia to receive treatment from her for a unique acne condition that predominantly affects black men (Acne Keloidalis Nuchae). Over the course of 15 years I have seen 3 Dermatologist and 2 Doctors who have told me that there is no way to treat it. To end a long story after one treatment from her and some topical ointments the condition is 97% gone! I giver her business card to black men that I see on the street who have really severe baldness and razor bumps due to this condition.In summary: A great book; A great Doctor and something that all people of African decent should have in their library.

This book answered so many questions I have had about my skin. Things I never remember to ask a doctor and other things I have asked that they had no answers for me. Maybe it's because often times I represent a minority of their clientele so they don't care to or haven't taken the time to know. This book should serve you as a reference book, one you will turn to from time to time and one you will want to give to the women in your life. Your daughters, your mom and others. Thank you Dr. Taylor for being so thorough.

Of all the knife books I've purchased over the years this is absolutely the highest quality, well organized and informative I've been lucky enough to own. This isn't the cheap paper quality you see in a lot of books, if anyone still reads hard copy books. The paper stock they use, to me, rivals magazine quality if not better. Plenty of historical information regarding CATTARAUGUS knives. It also includes most, if not all, of the other type of cutlery they made including razors. I don't know if they were able to include every pattern they made but I haven't "Stumped the Band" yet and I've had a lot of their knives. If there were one shortcoming I would mention is the printing of the pattern numbers next to each knife. I'm guessing they did this intentionally so as not to overwhelm the photo of the knives. I have to use a magnifying glass sometimes to see the numbers but that's okay by me because I want the knives to be the item on the page that stands out. If you collect CATTARAUGUS knives then this is a must have book. But don't expect to find one anymore at the price on the book. If you're lucky enough to find one at all. Especially new as mine is. That ship sailed a long time ago. The copy I have was copyrighted in 2000. It's worth every penny.

Short slim volume about the Cattaraugus Cutlery Co with many illustrations of knives and razors. The value guide should be taken with a grain of salt like all knife value guides but it does help somewhat as to rarity. Good general background on the company just wish there was more, maybe in the 2nd edition.

This book has it all for the beginner to the advanced. I only wish I had access to this book last year before I started PICMicro programming. It would have saved me countless hours of web searches. I swear, every aspect (and more) of programming PICs I have researched and bookmarked is here in this book. Many examples to be used and expanded upon easily. Only wish they would have used the more current 16F628A as a basis instead of the outdated 16F84A -- although to be fair, the examples can be used for any of the entire line 8-bit microcontrollers with only minor modifications (like telling the compiler it's a different chip and changing which pins for out and in -- easy). Serial communications, LCD interfacing, external EEPROM use, RTC's -- this book has it all. Should be used as a textbook for a course -- very comprehensive, not to mention up-to-date info on this subject (for once!). Quite pricey but worth it if you want to save yourself time and have ONE place to go for reference.

My experience of this book was quite different from that expressed in the earlier review. I was repeatedly frustrated. Many terms and concepts were introduced without any explanation or description, ever. Far too many pages contained long programs which did not appear to reflect either the best programming or pedagogical practice. Despite the length of this book, the range and depth of actual Microchip programming technique coverage seemed superficial.

Really good book, made history come to life. Touched on parts of history like the song of Roland and the coronation of Charlemegne that were told about in our History books and have it context so we will not soon forget the dates and times and story.

Wow! I think this was my favorite book we read for history this year. I bought this to go along with our Medieval Times history. This book held our interest from first page 'til the last. It really made us look at what it might have been for a child to grow up as the son of a king. It made me cry a couple of times. Ms. Willard manages to make you feel the pain that Carl must have felt loosing his mother; and the agony of watching his father take drastic steps - lives lost. It introduced famous people in a way that made them come alive.

Too bad 13 YO can't do reviews because this book is perfect for kids in the 5 & 6 grade. My first Charlemagne biography was by Harold Lamb, another excellent source of easy reading history of famous people. This book is a great way to introduce a young person to an important phase of post Roman history. It's not perfect and if you are a well read student of this era it's not going to expand your knowledge. However in an era when history writing for young people isn't getting their interest this book might just might help. Sadly Lamb's Charlemagne is hard to find because it was great for my growing interest in history of that era.

Told from the point of view of Charlemagne’s son, Carl, Son of Charlemagne tells of King Charles of the Franks reign through being crowned Holy Roman Emporer. The story is engaging and drew me in. I recommend this book to kids learning about the Middle Ages.

Interesting. I liked it because the Emperor worshipped God. It taught us a lot about the Franks and the Saxons. Spoiled alert:I liked it when Anghilbert and Bertha were secretly married.This review was written by kids.

I felt the writing of the story was a bit forced and didn't particularly enjoy it, but my middle-school aged students liked it. This is a perfect resource for a cross-curricular project with the history teacher.

This was informative and a great read aloud for the kids, but it wasn't terribly exciting like the cover might indicate. Overall a good read to teach the kids the kind of man Charlemagne may have been.

I loved the historical knowledge gained by reading this book. The fictional antidotes really twisted it into a tale tolerable to the senses of a child entering into young adulthood.

1.Rapture, 2.Been so long, 3. Little sister, 4. Been so long 2You must read these books in this order to appreciate the whole series. This is my first time reading books by this author and I was pleasantly surprised as will you. These books deal with mental/physical abuse, neglect, seeking help, and overcoming. Her words paint a beautiful portrait of Life. This book is very relatable especially in the African American home where most of us grew up believing not to talk to anyone about what goes on in your home and not to ask anyone for help. We are taught to keep everything bottled up inside and to forget about it "that was in the past." There were times while I was reading thinking is she talking about me? Other times I was yelling "don't do it". This book series is a MUST READ. Im trying not to give anything away in the series so you can form your own opinion and love the series just as much as I have.

SMH. At first I was disgusted with Mona and her decision-making. It seemed to me that she was mental. As I read on, I realized her traumatic childhood denied her "normal" reasoning powers. Corey irritated me to know end because, although Mona was wrong, Corey was acting like an unforgiving jerk. He was her introduction to JESUS. He should have been more compassionate and understanding. Not only was he responsible for Mona, but also his boys, and he didn't accept his responsbility for what went wrong. WASIF was the selfish jerk that he,always was. And then to blackmail Mona took even him to an all time low. I was glad Corey gave Wasif just what he deserved. Thank goodness the boys turned out okay and continued to respect all three parents. I was overjoyed that Mona and Cleo were reunited and maintained a close relationship. This is one of the best books I've read of this kind in a long time. I definitely recommend this book.

Mona and Corey are living their happily ever after.....or so Corey thought. After Corey took on more work trying to keep Mona accustomed to the life she had with Wasif his lack of presence at home presented a problem for Mona...she needed to feel needed...and who other to feel that need that the man who was always dropping by anyway? You guessed it....Wasif. So now they are back in a love triangle.....with Wasif using Sahib as a way to blackmail Mona into doing whatever he wants. Will Corey stick around if he finds out this information? Can Mona truly be faithful to Corey? You just gotta keep reading.........

I loved part one of this book however I am not a fan of part two and will not be reading part three. Reason being it is such an unrealistic story. The main character is so selfish and self centered its annoying. She blames others when she cant have her cake and eat someone else cake as well. I don't believe she really loves either man. She loves attention and if not given it she flips to the other. Never any real repercussions for her actions and never really any sense of her accepting responsibility for her relationship with Wasim. She wanted that man for so long and then all of a sudden she just hates him. Its unrealistic. If she truly loved him to me it would have been more of a struggle for her to leave him. I would have loved to see Wasim move on with someone else that he truly loved. Then we would see how bad she would want him again. To me she only wants attention. Love really means nothing to her. True love is not seen in any of the relationships and its disappointing. Basically unrealistic read leaves me a bit turned off.

Even better than the first. I must admit I was angry with Mona for much of this book. I actually shut the book last night because I was so upset with her choices. But now that I'm done with the book I realize her choices were part of her journey. Judging by the end I'm assuming there could be another and I can't wait. I love this author because her good clean writing. No ghetto talk or raunchy sex scenes. Just a good read. Now on to the third installment of Bluesday.

Adrienne Thompson is by far one of the African American classic authors of the new millennium. Her writing style has an easy flow with just enough rhythm to keep you turning the pages. She takes you into the behind the scenes mindset of Mona-Lisa Dandridge, and exposes the emotional ghosts of her past, that blindly controls her current life. The book is an awesome sequel to its equally awesome predecessor Been So Long. If you are looking for some classic reading material to add to your collection...get to clicking on Ms. Adrienne Thompson...with more than a couple of title's under belt...I plan to do exactly that!

A great read .... this should be a movie. On so many levels this could all be true, some body's story. It goes to show how what you do not only affect you but everyone in your life; your past your present and you future. And how you handle could destroy all. I wish Adrienne would have hit on the deal with the mother and her, many there's another book in the making to help clear up the questions I know many may have that would lead a mother to mess up her girls the way she did. Read the series you won't be disappointed.

I chose the highest rating of five because I couldn't stop reading until I read the last page. The love story of Mona-Lisa and Corey is very believable. I love the very essence of love especially when the story has a fairy tale ending. Wonderfully written, the storyline flowed flawlessly. Just an awesome read.

Informative book for children

I was so excited to get this book for my 5 year old! He just gobbled it up. It's very easy to read and understand, and provides solid information. Even I learned a lot from this book! So happy these books are available for my kids to read - I wish I had these when I was younger.
