I absolutely love these simple flash cards! On one side is the state on the other is the capitol. The sides that have the states are colored with the state itself show in white, with the location of the capitol marked by a dot, just like shown on a map. The sides that hold the capitol are white, with the state once again shown, but in color. The cards are not see through, so when you hold them up neither side is visible from the opposite. In other words, you can drill from the capitol side, without the state showing through and vice versa. Also included are 36 country cards that have their capitol cities listed, including the US. These are easily sorted, because the country side is black as opposed to the states which are bright colors. I love these. They are perfect for my 5 year old. (And older kids)

For about 5 minutes, I thought about making my own. I mean really, with Pinterest, all these "crafty" websites, what "good" mom wouldn't make her little Einstein some flashcards right? Um, me! Ain't nobody got time for that. I got through about 2 states before I realized that I could be doing 25 other things in my house that really needed done and by these on Amazon for way cheaper and that look like the actual State they were supposed to look like. Not only that, These come with countries of the world as well. The States are easy to sort out to memorize, as they are in colors like pinks and orange, where the countries are black and white. This particular set of flash cards only have the State on one side and the Capital on the other with a dot that shows where in the State the Capital is located, so if you want more info, you have to purchase other cards. This was enough for us. I am happy.

These are great! I like how the state is shown in relation to its location in the country as well. And the smaller included set of national capitals was a nice bonus. I am using these for a game with an older friend. She laughs that it helps keep her mind sharp, and we have laughed a lot about the state capitals we've forgotten. I got two sets--one for me and one for her. I can't wait to show her how wonderful they are. Her eyesight is weaker, so the larger print is effective. Great buy and great quality.

These are wonderful cards! Very sturdy, colorful and helpful. On one side you have the state and on the other side you have the capital - therefore, you can quiz yourself both ways. I love that on the state side, there is a picture of the entire U.S., with the state on the card shaded so you can familiarize yourself with where the state is within the country. As an added bonus, there are several countries and their capitals included in the pack! My only complaint (and this is very small) is that the cards are larger than I would like -- they aren't huge, but I wish they were more like playing card size for portability purposes.

These are well printed and suit a couple of purposes. If they match your needs, they're a good choice.We had a middle-schooler facing a test on all 50 states and their capitals, who also needed to identify the states by location on a map. No other data was being asked (like state nickname etc.) so we needed a plain interface like these cards have.You can see from the box cover that one side of each card shows where a state sits in the main continental US map (sorry, Alaska and Hawaii -- you have to sit in the margin again!) The other side shows the state capital and its location within the state.With a two-sided card there is only so much the designer can do, and I discovered that to quiz a student about what state is being shown by the map location, it is necessary to hide the state name (at the bottom of the card) with a finger or two while holding the card up. If you wanted to get carried away I suppose you could make a card holder that would hide the bottom inch or so, to do the same thing. Anyway, not counting the occasional slipped finger (or very long state name), this plan worked.You can of course do the quiz in reverse, showing the capital side and asking for the state name. Since the capital side of the card also shows the state shape, it is hard to quiz just on the capitals by name -- the state outline is sort of a hint, you might say.You can figure most of this out for yourself, I am just explaining what happened when we actually tried to use these to test the knowledge in multiple ways. The cards work primarily for matching capitals and state names. Recognizing shapes, or memorizing capitals without a visual prompt, requires slight adaptations as described here.Somebody else complained about the box being pre-opened. The box design is kind of weird and there are some flaps that are hot glued together, that come apart easily when you try to get the cards out. You end up with a sort of floppy thing that doesn't really hold the cards very well. That is probably what happened for that one customer, but I do not know why they concluded that the box had been opened or tampered with. It's just an odd packaging approach.The first time through the deck, this kid was doing so well, I felt I had just wasted $4! But the cards got pulled out later and re-used without any adult prompting, so I guess they were appealing to read and handle. Being able to shuffle the order is nice, compared to reading from a list on paper. if you have multiple users (big family or lots of friends) you will probably get more value from the set, and they are sturdy enough to last for a while -- if you can get them to stay in the box between uses.We did not use the country cards; they're well made but it seems odd to arbitrarily choose a couple dozen countries, out of the hundreds on earth, to include. It would seem to make more sense to have separate sets by continent, or something along those lines. Since this set is about the USA, I think it good that US territories are included, even though we did not need them.

Perfect, exactly what I was looking for and makes learning fun! I have my daughter pick 3 a day to memorize so she doesn't get overloaded with too much info. since she has other subjects to study as well.

My daughter had to learn all the state capitals for school. This was the perfect help. There are cards with all the states and their capitals and countries and their capitals. Good quality and very helpful. I liked that there were 6 different background colors for the state cards. This gave an easy way to separate them ("Today I'm going to work on the red ones.").

I got these for my daughter because I think it is sad our school district does not teach states and captials until 5th grade. She is in 2nd grade and is a good reader and these work great. They are also very sturdy compared to other sets I have seen.Besides the states, the set comes with country cards. The countries are actually a bit difficult, with African, Middle Eastern and South American countries, good challenge for adults as well as a good thing for your kids to be learning too!

I like to read murder mysteries. True-crime stories are usually pretty horrifying, sometimes outstripping crime novels in suspense and horrific-crime details. Made more unsettling because they're real-world events. Ann Rule has really captured (no pun intended) the terrifying saga of the final arrest and conviction of the I-5 killer. Was so gripping and enthralling, the way she presents the factual details, I read the whole thing in one sitting. Mystery fans, I recommend this book. Great beach/pool reading!

Ann Rule is the queen of true crime. Sadly, she passed away this year. The I-5 Killer was written by her under a pen name…Andy Stack…when she was getting started as a true crime writer. It was thought that a female writer would not be accepted in the true crime drama. The nerve! Ann Rule proved them all wrong.The I-5 Killer is story of Andy Woodfield. As with all Ann Rule books, The I-5 Killer chronicles Woodfield's early life and his decline into cold blooded killer as well as the investigation and the investigators that led to his capture. Woodfield was a killer of women...good looking on the outside, super creepy on the inside. It is fascinating that many serial killers can carry on somewhat normal relationships in addition to their extracurricular activity. Woodfield is no exception.

I love all the Ann Rule books I've read. This one included (I'm still reading it). It's hard to put down! (I have the kindle edition, so I don't really put it down, but rather X out of the window, lol). True crime stories scare me, and this is no exception. Hard to believe the evil that exists in this world. I like that she gives a lot of information about the victims, not just the perpetrator. Very easy read, not dumbed down or anything, but she puts the words together to weave such a believable and intricate narrative.

Another true crime story by Author, Ann Rule. A detailed account of a serial killer who stalked Interstate I-5 during the 1970's on the Southern Coast of the United States. This book is an excellent read for those of you who are in law enforcement or field of phycology. It details the crimes and delves into the mental state of the actual killer. The book contains actual photos of the killer, victims, and law enforcement who eventually tracked-down and brought this killer to justice. The photos are not graphic crime scene photos of victims.

This book is about a serial murderer along the I-5 corridor along the Pacific Northwest. Once again, Ann Rule delivers a thorough, suspenseful true crime novel. It's especially interesting to me because my mother was neighbors with the woman from Redding who was murdered, so it has a personal connection to me and mine.It focuses much more on the investigation than the killer's story, which I found wonderful and fascinating. If you enjoy suspense, drama, and/or crime novels, this chilling true story should be on your bookshelf!

It was not exciting as other books I've that kept me on the edge of my seat. I like books with full details and while some parts of the book were detailed, it just didn't bring the interest I desired. not worth reading again.

Shortly into this one, I realized that I had already read it. Liking Rule's work, I re-read it anyway. It is old enough that an update at the end would be welcome. (Much of it takes place in the early 1980's.) It follows the behavior and delusions of a dangerous man whom the police finally captured and the legal system successfully prosecuted.

I have read a few Ann Rule books (one of my favorite authors) especially her earlywork & this one did not dissapoint. She has a certain way of writing about a horriblesubject that is not gory but does not skip details & never glorifies the killer & alwayshas the reader to keep in mind that these are innocent victims & the toll it takes on their friends& loved ones......

The Episcopal church in the twentieth century took advantage of the general availability of publishing to good advantage, compiling through several auspices different collections and teaching series, the latest of which was only completed a few years ago. There have been 'unofficial' collections of teaching texts, such as the Anglican Studies Series by Morehouse press, put out in the 1980s, as well as an earlier teaching series. However, each generation approaches things anew; the New Church Teaching Series, published by Cowley Publications (a company operated as part of the ministry of the Society of St. John the Evangelist - SSJE - one of the religious/monastic communities in the Episcopal church, based in the Boston area) is the most recent series, and in its thirteen volumes, explores in depth and breadth the theology, history, liturgy, ethics, mission and more of the modern Anglican vision in America.This tenth volume, 'Christian Social Witness' by Harold Lewis, continues to look at the issues of ethics and morality in an Anglican fashion, particularly as it relates to living in community in the world.Christian social witness, according to Lewis, is faith in action, what we do because of what we believe. The term `witness' is well known in religious and secular circles - social witness, however, modifies this to mean taking one's faith and belief into the world of others, the social arena, beyond the (usually) safe confines of the church and family of like-minded believers, into the streets if necessary. Examples from recent history include the likes of Martin Luther King, Jr., with his dramatic ministry, but also include the more spontaneous and simple action such as Rosa Parks.Anglicanism often suffers from a bad reputation of being a church of the propertied and politically powerful, disconnected from `the real world' of struggles and injustice. Lewis draws on Anglican figures such as F.D. Maurice and William Temple to trace a history of Anglican concern for social justice ministry developing from the concept of incarnation - that God is present in the world. Lewis traces the history of Anglican social witness from the Church of England through to the early Episcopal church, highlighting issues such as the Episcopalian response to slavery and the Civil War and the Civil Rights Movement.Lewis looks in some detail at the issues of economic justice, both within the United States and the broader issues of economic justice between nations in the development/underdeveloped world; the issue of race relations in America, not just African-American issues, but other races as well; the issue of gender and gender equity both inside and outside of the church; and the most current hot-button issue of sexuality and orientation. I don't know where this author came from but if you take a look at his work it's on some truly interesting stuff. This latest book on the science of being lucky is no different. It takes a topic that is generally interesting and then breaks it down and defines it in a way that you can make use of in your daily life. At the least you'll learn a ton about a subject that you probably hadn't thought about.Recommended if you like Dan Heath, Dan Pink, and Gladwell books. His books are a little shorter but for me, I like that because it gets to the point and I can absorb info more quickly.Here's what is inside the book:-definitions of luck, coincidence, serendipity and the like-busting some luck myths-what compels human beings to want to believe in luck and other supernatural things-a bunch of ways you can actually force yourself into more lucky situations - none of these are mindblowing but they do show a distinct pattern of what we would call lucky and how we get there.There you have it. Good info, and even helpful tips to make you a luckier person. Whether you follow them is up to you. I was pleasantly shocked by how much I enjoyed this. What "serendipity!"

The book does a good job explaining the traits and thought patterns of people that consider themselves lucky based on the current research.It is for the most part a pop-psych book that described humans perception of luck with some good general tips on mental hygiene and how to cultivate gratitude for our existence.The utility for the reader outside learning about human psychology is some recommended daily thoughts and actions that will expand the possible outcomes for what in hindsight would be perceived as good luck.It is an easy read, short and to the point, the kindle version was flawless.After reading the book I sent an email to the Author about a detail in the book, he responded kindly and encouraged me to leave a review.

I love the kitty on the front. As for the book itself, a nice read - no regrets ordering this one but no fireworks of realizations went off by the time I closed the back cover.

A worthy read. The man has a brain...uses it...and gets his point across. Well researched work. Looking forward to more material with this author !!
