I have this whole series. It started with Rescued by a Highlander. I love every book, and this one is no exception. Maggie hard and scary life till she was rescued by Logan and Qwenith Ramsay. Her adopted mother has taught her how to use a bow, and she's good at. Almost as good as her mother. She's having nightmares about her time with the evil man who bought her from her father. She meets a Highlander who has no clan. He decides to go along with her to protect her. Even though she didn't want him too. This book is just a great as all the others. I loved reading about how all the parents met and fell in love. Now the kids. There are 7 the Clan Grant series, and there are 11 in the Highland Cousens. I have read these books several times.
What an incredible start to a new series! I am so happy to hear about this new generation of cousins willing to help the Scottish crown. The younger kids relegated to minor roles are now becoming the heroes in their own stories.Maggie's story is sad because she had to relive the worst moments of her childhood. But at the same time it had a happy ending. She met Will, the love of her life, and was able to save four lassies. Now the new Band of Cousins will venture into the world and help save more lassies. Cannot wait😘
Luckily I got this book for free, because otherwise I would have returned it. While the writing wasn’t bad and I have read other books by this author that I enjoyed....I stopped reading this novel at 58% on my kindle because the heroine was just too reckless and stupid. The first time she ran off by herself to take care of “the problem†I let it go and hoped she had learned from her mistake. Now, the second time she wants to go off unprepared and without her father ( who asked her to wait for him), I just couldn’t take her stupidity any longer and just stopped reading. I almost never do this, however, I just don’t appreciate poor judgement in order to further a plot. It’s too bad since I liked her budding relationship with Will and I liked the other characters as well. I just have no patience for a character making the same mistakes over and over so she gets into trouble to create the problems of the story line.
I own many books by this author and so happy it was on sale. I have all the others on my wish list on Amazon, hoping I can snatch them up too if price drops.This story will keep you riveted from start to finish. I loved how they met and Will started out from the very first time they met protecting her. Even though our Maggie is one heck of a heroine.It was a story that was hard to read at times. About people taking advantage of the weak, selling children for a profit, this broke my heart. Just reading about their stories. I know selling of anyone has been happening for hundreds and hundreds of years and it is still going on.The romance builds slowly, we have mildly described lovemaking outside of marriage. It was nice to catch up with the other members of the family (which I love). This can be a stand alone and I liked how the cousins came by their name (BAND OF COUSINS). Will make for more interesting stories on them in the future.We have no cheating, suspense, no cliffhanger, great build up to HEA and a unique story line that I couldn't put down. I highly recommend this story and any that this amazing author writes. Her character's whether main or secondary are written with such depth, you have no problems visualizing them and their actions seem spot on. (ljb)
I've read other Keira Montclair books I liked better. This was a fun, breezy read, although I didn't fully buy the whole chemistry between Maggie and Will, to be honest. I wish there'd been more interactions between them, I don't know... I felt the whole relationship was a bit lacking, considering what other relationships I've read depicted by the author. Overall it was fun, and I liked it, although there were way too many characters to keep track of if you don't know the series. I'm also having a bit of an issue with women being depicted as so completely reckless and kind of dumb, tbh. I guess that's the point, that Maggie is grounded by Will, but still... It wasn't as bad as other novels I've read, but it's definitely not Montclair's best.
What can I say...love Keira Montclair books. From the beginning, the series was born in the love story of Alex Grant and his love, Madeline MacDonald. A great standalone book, but I encourage you to go back to the beginning and read, "Rescued by a Highlander". Then, keep on reading!
I’ve loved the Montclair series of adventures since I read the very first about Alex Grant! This novel continues with the Maggie Ramsay who watches her sister Molly seriously injures in fall over a ravine when she ducks to avoid an arrow. As Maggie watches over Molly, she struggles with her injuries and suffers a nightmare of their time under Randall Blaine. Maggie decides to find Him and takes off for England alone. She is followed by Will, “The Wild Falconer†- a friend of her cousins, but an outlaw wanted by the King for murder. They ultimately reach their destiny and find a lass of 10 years old being whipped. Their rescue of Simone begins a saga that leads to the ugly sale of children into slavery, an attempt on the King’s life, the marriage of Will and Maggie, and a request to find and destroy the underground sale of humans! Great story and a fabulous addition to the Highlander family group!AJ R
Loved this book! I couldn't put it down, it's just as exciting as all of the Grant/Ramsay highland family stories. This is about Maggie, a character I've looked forward to hearing about. I can't wait to see which cousin's story will next. Best highland romances I've read.
